Tajima North Park

It was all in the details for this rendition of Tajima Restaurants in North Park. By fusing together traditional Japanese elements with this 1934 designated historic building, we were able to reinterpret East-meets-West through the lens of Japanese Art Deco. Accented details include original plaster lathe, notes of red and chrome, and an abstracted ramen-bowl-and-noodle “fountain” frieze. On the walls, interlocking triangles were routered and finished with custom stainless steel triangle LED light fixtures. Guests are welcomed by an entryway formed with intersecting phenolic plywood panels routered with graphic lines to create separation from the entry to dining area, evoking traditional design in a modern context.
